Alfred Art Walk is a collaborative monthly venture created by the galleries in the Village of Alfred and on the campuses of Alfred University and Alfred State College in an effort to foster dialogue within the local arts communities.
During my internship with the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, working on the marketing of Alfred Art Walk, I was tasked with creating a website for the small collaborative venture. It has since grown from an Alfred-exclusive event promoter to including several nearby towns and the venues they have to offer.
I was excited to work on this project, as I felt it was going to be something that filled many of the gaps I felt our local arts community had. It was difficult to find information regarding local events, and members of the community were often unfamiliar with the local venues and what they provide to the community every day.
This project was my chance to create something beautiful and functional to serve my local community, and it has served its purpose well thus far.
Primary Website Objectives
Accessibility of Information
It was essential that the website could function as a hub for all information regarding Alfred Art Walk and the events featured each month. Events, exhibitions, and venues in the Alfred, NY area should be highlighted each month and presented in a way that is easy for visitors to find.
Archive of Events
Another essential feature of this website is the ability to archive past events. Keeping a record of previous Art Walks is important and allows the organization to learn from past experiences. In addition, visitors who had missed the events will be able to browse the archive and see what happens in Alfred, NY.
